RIASSUNTO IN INGLESE (SUMMARY)

The text consists of two parts. The first part of the passage (lines 1-12) contains a monologue which is pronounced by Juliet. In her monologue Juliet, who is unaware of the fact that Romeo is under her balcony, gives voice to her concern for having fallen in love with a Montague. While she is expressing her own thoughts on Romeo’s belonging to the Montagues, Juliet confesses aloud her love for Romeo. By Juliet’s words, Romeo realizes that he is reciprocated by the girl he loves, and therefore reveals himself. Thus begins the second part of the passage (lines 13-36), which is occupied by the dialogue between the two young lovers. During the dialogue, Juliet, embarrassed by the fact that her love confession has been heard too soon by Romeo, begs the young man not to believe her too accommodating in love, and, above all, not to mock her.

The Montagues and the Capulets, the two chief families of Verona, have been divided for generations by terrible hatred.
One night Romeo, the only son of the old Montague, takes part wearing a mask in a party at Capulets’ house; in that circumstance, he sees for the first time Juliet, old Capulet’s daughter. So the young man approaches the girl, exchanges some words with her, and finally kisses her.
At the end of the party, Romeo hides himself in the garden of the Capulets, hoping to see Juliet again.
Shortly after, as expected, Juliet appears on her balcony.

The text consists of two parts. Il testo si divide in due parti.
